“Baptism is the beginning and the first of the three sacraments of initiation into full communion with Christ and his Church. During the Baptismal rite, parents promise to raise their children in the Catholic faith. “
(Standards for Preparing Youth and Children for the Sacraments, Archdiocese of Edmonton, June 2016. Pg. 11)
St Stephen Church welcomes the opportunity to share with you the celebration of your child's baptism. If you wish to have your children to be baptized at St. Stephen, you are required to:
- Attend a Baptismal preparation session on one of the five evenings that are offered during the year. Please contact the office for the date, time and location of the next session.
- Complete the Baptism of a Child form (available at the parish office)
- Be a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church. If your family is registered at another parish, please bring a letter from your parish priest to the parish office that extends his permission to celebrate this Sacrament away from your home parish.
“The Rite of Baptism for Children is used exclusively for children (infants) under the age of discernment (7 years). The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, adapted for children, is used for children of catechetical age (7 years and older). At fourteen years of age, a youth on their own, may request Baptism or wish to make a Profession of Faith. It would be important to have the support of their parents”.
